Our Collections
The collections held with the SHCJ European Province Archives date from the nineteenth century onwards and describe in detail the work and lives of SHCJ sisters as well as the people they interacted with while carrying out their ministries.
The papers available range from meeting minutes revealing how the SHCJ faced the challenges of managing their workload while maintaining the spirit of the Society to letters and memoirs of sisters giving a personal perspective of life as an SHCJ sister. We see a more light-hearted side to SHCJ nuns in the many cartoons produced by and shared amongst sisters. Collections of photographs give us a privileged glimpse into moments from past school and community life. Images of liturgical objects, textiles, furniture and other objects used and made by the SHCJ share some of the treasures in our collections as well as allowing us to understand the sisters’ crafts and the other work they carried out.
